Join the Stanford Club of Marin for a timely, virtual discussion regarding the availability and reliability of water supply during the current drought in California. Reservoirs in Marin County are at historic low levels and alternative water supplies will be needed by next summer unless there is significant rainfall this coming winter. Moreover, climate change is likely to make this problem worse long term. The discussion will be led by the General Managers of the two largest water agencies in Marin County, Ben Horenstein of Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) and Drew McIntyre of North Marin Water District (NMWD). The discussion will revolve around five key questions: 1. Where does our water come from? 2. How severe is the current drought compared to past droughts? 3. What is the potential for MMWD and NMWD running out of water in the near term? 4. What measures are being pursued to ensure that we do not run out of water in the near term? and 5. What is the likely effect of climate change on current and future droughts and what long term solutions are being considered?
