APA Literature Book Club - Meet the Author: Photographic Memories: A Story of Shinjitsu (by a Stanford Alumna)
Co-author and SAPAAC member Risa Shimoda '77 has recently published a book titled, Photographic Memories: A Story of Shinjitsu which tells a story of passion, resourcefulness and diligence for sharing beauty, through the lens of her dad’s pursuit of his professional passion. Her father's journey includes: a three-week long, trans-Pacific, ocean crossing without family or friends at the age of nine; a perilous evacuation from California in the immediate aftermath of the bombing of Pearl Harbor; refuge with a Mormon ‘refugee’ family in Utah; arrests for suspected espionage/treason; and federal internment he had so earnestly sought to avoid.
Authors Risa Shimoda and Bob Fleshner will read a few passages from the book, then hold a Q&A session. Completion of the book is not a requirement, and all are welcome to attend!
